Star Valley Street Market launched its fifth season on Saturday, May 30, with vendors and guests in faithful attendance despite the drizzle of the day. The market is tailored to support local vendors who offer locally handcrafted items and food and is located on the Lincoln County Fairground lawn along Washington Street in Afton.
Street Market events are scheduled to continue throughout the summer with market days on June 13 and 27, July 3, 5 and 25, August 22 and 25, and September 12. Vending begins at 10 a.m. and closes at 2 p.m. for each event, except July 3 and 5 when the market partners with the Town of Afton Independence Day festivities. Hours on July 3 run from noon to 8 p.m. and hours on July 5 will be from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Typically offering 36-40 vendors, the market prioritizes small businesses that sell handcrafted items, limiting manufactured items such as “Scentsy,” explained Mica Don, owner of the Star Valley Street Market company. “The majority of our vendors are local, offering handmade product. This stuff is made very intentionally. It’s very unique. You can’t get it online.”
With vendors coming as frequently as they can, guests to the market can expect to find handmade jewelry, handmade purses and wallets, handmade embroidered and burned hats, smoked cheese, canned goods, spices, honey, sourdough bread and handmade wellness products as well as other unique items of interest.
Four or five food vendors at the market offer coffee, corndogs, tacos and a few sweet treats such as deep-fried items and waffles.
Vendors are always invited to join the market. Applications can be found at StarValleysStreetMarketllc.
“Please shop locally and support the small businesses that are trying to start,” said Don. “This is really just to promote these small vendors so they can get representation in the valley.”
Don has moved out of the valley and is looking to sell the Street Market. “I will wait until I find the right buyer.” She hopes to sell to an individual who will continue to offer the market consistently and keep it affordable for vendors. Anyone interested in purchasing the market can contact Don directly at 620-453-1737.
