Star Valley could break the all-time record high temperature this weekend

The upcoming weekend is forecast to be very hot and dry in Star Valley with the National Weather Service predicting temperatures to climb well into the 90’s. Sunday should be the hottest with the all-time high record temperature in Afton in danger of being broken.

According to the National Weather Service-Riverton Office, which monitors the wester side of the state, Afton could see a temperature of 93 for the high on Saturday, July 11. If so, that would break the previous record of 91 degrees set on July 11 in 2001.

Temperatures will be even warmer on Sunday, with the NWS predicting Afton to reach 97 degrees, which would be the all-time high record for the town dating back to when record keeping began in 1957. The temperature is expected to shatter the record high for the specific date of July 12, which is at 92 degrees set in 2002.

Also on the western side of the state, Jackson and Big Piney are anticipated to break record high temperatures this weekend, with Jackson potential hitting triple digits at an even 100 degrees on Sunday. The communities of Greybull and Worland in Wyoming are expected to climb even higher with highs forecast to be upwards of 110 to 111 degrees. Both would break the all-time high for the two communities.
