• Four seats up for election, one seat to be appointed

A total of eight candidates filed with the Lincoln County Clerk’s Office to run for Lincoln County School District #2 Board of Trustees. In addition, another seat will be filled by appointment after a current board member, Jake Long, won a seat on the Lincoln County Commission following the Primary Election August 18.

One at-large seat is up for election, which is currently held by Connie Day. Two candidates filed for the position, including Lanny D. Draney and Eileen Merritt. Lenn Johnson and Spencer England are running for Area 1, currently filled by Timothy Teichert. In Area 2, current board member Lynn A. Call is seeking re-election, while Connie C. Lancaster and Val Nelson have also filed for the position. And in Area 5, which is currently held by David Jenkins, Paige W. Adams was the only candidate to file.

All of the seats mentioned above are for four year terms, with the exception of Area 1, which is filling a two-year unexpired term.

“We’re strongly encouraged and we’re grateful that people are willing to step up and serve,” stated Superintendent Matt Erickson. “People don’t realize the number of hours that they put in for training and in meetings. They have the kid’s best interest in mind and staff second. I’m very appreciative of our community members that are willing to serve.”

In addition, Jake Long, who currently sits on the LCSD#2 Board of Trustees representing Area 4, was elected as a Lincoln County Commissioner earlier this month in the Primary Election. Long will continue to serve on the school board for the remainder of 2026, but stated he plans to submit his resignation once the General Election results have been certified. The current Board of Trustees will appoint Long’s replacement to begin January 2027 and serve the remainder of his term, which expires in 2028. Details regarding those who wish to apply for the appointed position in Area 4 will be determined and announced at a later date.
