New stake created for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints

 

A new stake for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was organized Sunday, August 23, 2026, creating the Salt River Stake and restructuring the congregations, moving three wards from the Thayne Stake in the Afton Stake.

The Salt River Stake includes the Fairview, Osmond, Dry Creek, West Hills, Bitter Creek, Smoot, Cottonwood and Salt River wards. Jeff England was called as the new stake president, with Dave Hokanson serving as first counselor and Shane Harris serving as the second counselor.

Following the reorganization, the Afton Stake now consists of Afton First, Afton Second, Afton Third, Afton Fourth, Grover, Meadows, Auburn and Young Single Adult (YSA) wards. Christian Morgan was called as Afton Stake president, with Dave Johnson as first counselor and Kyle Hirschi as second counselor.
