Now in it’s third year, the More Cowbell Invite had a total of 13 teams from three different states and ran two different sessions, Red and Gold, at Valli Vu Golf Course last week. In the Gold session, Kellsie Dunne, Carlee Angell and Tylita Bond went 1-2-3 for Star Valley to help lead the Lady Braves to the top podium spot. All three ran under 21:30 for the race with Adrie Kennington and Evelyn Scharmann rounding out the scoring five and a total score of 27. Sugar-Salem was second with a 58.

The Braves also ran a great race but were edged in the team score by a single point by Sugar-Salem, 52-53. Caleb Crowther and Luke Harris were both well under 18 minutes and placed fourth and sixth overall respectively to lead the effort.

“It was a great rust-buster for us,” answered coach Ty Draney. “We’ve gone through the times and compared from last year and the summer miles are paying off. We like where we’ve started. The only way to gain experience is to have experiences so we’re going to do that.”

This Saturday the SVXC teams will be in Soda Springs for the very competitive Cardinal Classic where approximately 40 teams are expected to run.

“It’s always a great race and they do a great job,” Draney added. “ It will help us pick who runs next week in Bozeman where there will be 60 teams at that one. That one will be a new experience with the teams from Montana and Northern Idaho and Sheridan. We’re looking to stay healthy and working hard as we start this block of training.”
