For the second straight weekend the Star Valley defense dominated their opponent, holding them under 100 yards for the night in a lopsided score. This time it was a 48-7 final in Powell that started the second half with a running clock after a 48-0 halftime score. The Panthers avoided the shutout with a punt return for a touchdown with under three minutes to go in the contest. 

The first two quarters were an aerial assault by the Braves quarterback as Ross Hilton collected his first 300-yard passing game and he did it by halftime. He connected with five different receivers on 15 completions. Hilton threw for at least five touchdowns for the third time in the last four games. His two favorite targets were a pair of seniors as Roman Erickson continued stellar career with five catches for 109 yards and two touchdowns. Weston Crogg caught four passes for 75 yards and two scores. Hilton also connected with junior tight end, Kai Frazier, for a pair of passes for 44 yards and a touchdown. 

Defensively the Panthers had no answer for the Star Valley defense which has allowed just a total of 101 yards in the last two games combined. Backup quarterback, Karcher Foley, had pressure in his face all night from the Braves defense who stymied the Powell rushing attack to just 28 yards on 29 carries. Kade Rich collected an interception on defense as well. 

The win moves the Braves to (4-1) on the season and (1-0) in the 3A West. The biggest game of the regular season is next Friday as Star Valley hosts rival Cody for Homecoming in a game that regularly delivers on the expectations of the two communities. The two schools have combined to win the last 11 Wyoming 3A state titles with Star Valley winning the last four at the expense of the Broncs. Cody quarterback, Cache McFadden, who has committed to play for the University of Wyoming next season, will be looking to reverse that trend. Kickoff for Friday, October 2 at Braves Field is scheduled for 5 p.m.

Just up the road from Powell High School, Cody and Jackson clashed in the Battle of the Broncs that lit up the scoreboard for more than 100 combined points in a 70-49 Cody victory. The big news in the 4A classification was the end of the winning streak for the Sheridan Broncs which closed out at 59 games in a 38-0 Natrona victory in Casper. 

In the 3A West, #4 Evanston stopped the Green River Wolves on their final play inside the red zone to secure a 25-20 victory and a 5-0 start for the Devils. 

In a battle of ranked teams in the 2A West, #3 Cokeville went on the road under the lights in Pinedale and thumped the #4 Wranglers 35-7. The Kemmerer Rangers were on the road at #2 Mountain View where the Buffalos stampeded to a 42-14 victory. #5 Thermopolis outlasted Lovell 13-9. Finally the Lyman Eagles came up short against Aspen (CO) with a final of 27-24.
