Thayne man injured in east Idaho vehicle fire

A 26-year-old man from Thayne was among two adults injured in a vehicle fire in eastern Idaho, while an 8-year-old girl from the Rexburg area has been identified as the minor who lost her life in the incident.

According to Idaho State Police, the Thayne man was towing a livestock trailer with a 2003 Chevy 2500 on Highway 20 north of Ashton on Friday, October 9. At around 5:25 p.m. the Chevy overheated at the top of Ashton Hill and caught fire.

“Emergency crews responded to the fire, where the juvenile died at the scene,” stated Idaho State Police. “The truck driver was airlifted to the hospital.” Another passenger, a 23-year-old woman from Rexburg, was taken by ambulance. The condition of the two adults remains unknown.

Fremont County coroner Brenda Dye has identified the girl as 8-year-old Kynzlee Rae Luthy of Hibbard, Idaho, a small town located west of Rexburg, Idaho. According to her obituary, Luthy was a student at Hibbard Elementary and “a light in everyone’s life.”

Both lanes of the highway were closed for approximately three hours following the incident.
