The Greys River Ranger District of the Bridger-Teton National Forest will hold an informational open house on June 26. The purpose of the open house is to present information relating to the Middle Greys Motorized Travel Project.

The open house will take place on Tuesday, June 26 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Greys River Ranger District Office in Afton.

According to the Forest Service, the Greys River Ranger District has completed an environmental assessment for improving motorized trail opportunities in the Middle Greys River drainage.

The Environmental Assessment and a draft Decision Notice are now available for review on the Bridger-Teton National Forest website. You can find the Environmental Assessment under the “Analysis” tab and the draft Decision Notice is under the “Decision” tab.

The project proposes “to build some new connector segments and includes changes in classification of road/trail vehicles on various routes between Meadow Creek and South Three Forks on the west side of the Greys River Road, creating a new trail-only loop network for larger side-by-side OHVs.”

According to the Forest Service, the “network loops will have two different open seasons, providing some increased opportunity for hunting with trail vehicles on the south end, while protecting fawning habitat and fall security cover for wildlife on the north end.”

According to the Forest Service, the “network configuration is the result of a succession of public inputs and feedback, as well as specialist analysis of wildlife, water quality, fisheries, cultural resources and various types of recreation interests.”

Both the Wyoming State Trails Program and Wyoming Game and Fish Department have provided research as well as funding support during the development of this project.

As part of the June 26 open house, Forest Service staff will have “maps of the new proposed network and information about other trail riding and recreation opportunities on the district.”

Staff members will also address questions on the Environmental Assessment and the draft decision on the proposed project.

The draft decision on the Middle Greys Motorized Travel Project is “subject to a pre-decisional objection process.”

According to the Forest Service, objections “will be accepted from those who have previously submitted specific written comments regarding the proposed project during public scoping.”

Objections, including attachments, must be filed in writing with the reviewing officer, Forest Supervisor Patricia O’Connor by July 27, 2018.
