Country singer Nate Burnham will be getting a band together to perform after the PRCA Rodeo Saturday under the Big Top.

The rodeo will begin at 7 PM and is expected to end around 9 PM when Burnham will take the stage. He says people can expect to hear a traditional sound with a little modern take on it.

“I grew up listening to Chris LeDoux,” Burnham said about his influences. “Like Chris LeDoux said ‘even cowboys like a little rock and roll’, I think Chris played a little bit of everything.”

He said he also has some Texas influence and so anyone that knows Cody Johnson or Randy Rogers, his sound is like that; traditional mixed with a modern take to it.

“I would call it country or Texas country,” Burnham said. “Not as ‘poppy’ as what is coming out of Nashville, but again some songs kind of bounce all over the place. You know whatever the song kind of needs to be.”

While he is from Texas and was born in Houston, he is not unfamiliar with Star Valley. He moved to and lived in Idaho Falls for a while.

“I got a lot of friends I call family in the Star Valley area,” Burnham said.

He has been playing a long time and has recorded a couple of albums. He kept a foot in music while trying to run his own business for several years. He even started that business the same time he began operations of his own company.

“I was actually naïve enough to think I could do both,” Burnham said.

However, he says he sold his business and has been running the Texas circuit for only four or five months. Now he is pursuing a career in music full time.

He says each of his albums have 13 songs and one is on a regional Top 100 chart at 55 or 56 entitled Last Call. There is also a song called I Got Game that locals may be interested in.

“There is a guy named David Long who is a big mule deer hunter,” Burnham said. “Him and his brother got together and asked me to come help them with a project.

“So, we wrote a song called a ‘mule deer anthem’.”

He says that is available online on most streaming platforms.

“It’s a little rock and roll,” Burnham said. “But Chris LeDoux said that’s okay.”

He says he loves the outdoors and a lot of his songs reflect that. He says he also writes things that are personal to him, but he believes are relatable to others. He thinks once people hear him they will understand he is “not just a Texas boy”, but he has lived in the west and understands the audience in Star Valley.
