Alpine Fire and Alpine EMS responded to a trench collapse in Alpine at 6:14 p.m. on Thursday, November 19.
Alpine Fire Chief Mike Vogt said that upon arrival emergency responders found a person had been fully submerged, pinned upright against the wall of the trench. Members and bystanders dug with shovels and exposed the patient. Nylon webbing was used to pull the patient out after being half exposed.
CPR began immediately and the patient was also shocked with a defibrillator and given drug therapy. Life Flight was called but returned to base due to weather. The patient was transported to Star Valley Health.
The patient did regain a pulse and respirations and was later Life Flighted to ERMAC.
The response included three EMTs from Alpine EMS, five firefighters from Alpine Fire, and one Star Valley Health paramedic that had been staged in the Alpine area.
