A pickup truck was pulled from the Montpelier Reservoir on Wednesday, May 11.
The Bear Lake County Sheriff’s Office said they received a report of a truck that had gone in the reservoir, with witnesses saying the truck was being driven in an extremely reckless manner . The driver went around a turn at a high rate of speed, lost control and left the roadway travelling down a steep embankment and into the reservoir. The occupants of the truck were able to safety get out of the truck and back to shore.
When emergency responders arrived the truck was completely submerged in the reservoir and was not visible. The occupants of the vehicle were identified, but names were not released.
The truck was recovered two days after the incident on May 13. The Bear Lake County Sheriff’s Office Dive Team, Bear Lake County Search & Rescue, Bear Lake County Ambulance Service and Wilk’s Towing were involved in the recovery efforts. Divers were able to locate the truck, which was submerged approximately 12-15 feet below the surface. Cables were attached to the truck and Wilk’s Towing was able to pull the truck out of the water.
