The Town of Afton has announced a fundraising campaign with the hopes of improving the historic star on the hillside at the mouth of Swift Creek Canyon.
The town said the new Star project should be completed by early summer 2023 and will consist of a fabricated steel structure equipped with color changing LED lights, a live view camera overlooking Afton and underground power. The twelve-month project plan will kick off with a fundraising campaign in June 2022 and wrap up with a celebration to the honor the past and welcome the future.
In a released statement the Town of Afton said “It is our hope to collaborate with businesses and residents throughout the valley to get this project off the ground financially. Although the Town of Afton has taken the lead on the project and holds the permit, we believe the Star is a representation of Star Valley as a whole and we look forward to coming together for the common goal of building a stronger future.”
The Star, which overlooks Afton and Star Valley High School, was originally built by the Senior Class of 1924.
