Braves aerial attack bombs Preston in 42-14 win

After missing the start in Zero Week with an injury, it was almost like quarterback Taft McClure was trying to make up for lost time as he threw for a school record 375 yards in a lopsided 42-14 win over visiting Preston. McClure’s favorite target was newcomer Wyatt Crogg who compiled 187 yards receiving and three touchdowns. Chase Stewart also nabbed a touchdown reception giving McClure his second career four-touchdown game.

Defensively the Braves put all kinds of pressure on the Indian offense and forced five turnovers which included a pair of fumble recoveries and three interceptions. Jayden Crook returned his interception 69 yards for a score and also had a five-yard rushing touchdown.

Now at 2-0 the Braves will be up for their toughest challenge of the season thus far as they travel to Sugar City, Idaho to take on the Diggers. Sugar-Salem High School came within an eyelash of winning their fourth straight Idaho 3A title last season.

It’s the first of four consecutive road games for Star Valley who will then enter Wyoming play with games in Riverton, Evanston and Powell.

At #2 in the wyopreps.com Coaches and Media Poll, the Braves should only solidify their ranking with a pair of upsets taking place Friday night. Unranked Jackson upset #3 Douglas with a 17-9 victory and unranked Worland thumped #4 Powell 28-7. #5 Buffalo appears primed to move up after a 27-8 victory against Newcastle.

In other scores of note, Bear Lake High School shut out Lyman 28-0, ending a 20-game winning streak for the Eagles. Glenrock defended their home turf with a 36-6 win over Kemmerer.

In the 4A Class, #1 Cheyenne East handled #3 Natrona in Casper, 33-7. In another ranked clash, #4 Thunder Basin outscored #5 Rock Springs in Sweetwater County, 36-21.
