Coach Darell Bullington Discusses Rangers Road To A Repeat

The Kemmerer Rangers are heading into the Ron Thon this weekend in Riverton as the defending state champions across 2A Wyoming and they don’t show any signs at this point in the year of having taken any steps back from their extraordinary season a year ago. The Rangers went into the Lander invite last weekend and won the tournament widely considered to be a key 3A benchmark tournament as things head toward State, despite being the smallest school in the tournament as a 2A school truly showcasing the sheer talent level of this Rangers squad.

Coach Bullington credited the parents and a great youth wrestling culture in Kemmerer for creating the success the Rangers have seen over the past 5-6 years and said that is the main reason for how the program is capable of constantly bringing in phenomenal athlete after phenomenal athlete to wrestle. “They are really competitive so we have a lot of competition in-room” Coach Bullington stated in regards to creating a honed team full of seasoned wrestling competitors, and iron sharpening iron type approach has helped the Rangers this winter it seems.

The Kemmerer coach also told us that he is not the type of person who circles any particular opponent on the schedule or in the upcoming state tournament down the line and that the focus is and always has been within, the team focuses on itself and what they can do not worrying about who else may pose a threat at this time. A big part of that as Bullington points out is keeping the team mentally locked in by giving themselves a tough schedule loaded with talented competition all season long so when things like the Ron Thon or State Championship come into focus the moment nor the competition level is too big for the Rangers.
