• Kerr Brothers qualify for National Finals
The Idaho High School State Finals Rodeo was held at the Bannock Event Center in Pocatello June 8-15. Local athletes from both Star Valley and Cokeville that qualified from Idaho District 8 competed in the event. Because of geography and travel distance, Lincoln County athletes compete in the much closer Idaho circuit.
Twin brothers Case and Ryder Kerr of Fairview came out of the event with a 2nd place finish in Team Roping, qualifying them for the High School National Finals Rodeo. The Kerr’s started off with a frustrating attempt in the 1st Go with a no score. However they finished with a 9.530 in the 2nd Go, a 7.900 in the 3rd Go and a 7.850 in the Short Go for a total of 43.50 points. Case and Ryder now prepare for the National Finals which will be held July 14-20 in Rock Springs, Wyoming.
Triston and Ross Hilton, brothers from Afton, also earned a trip to the state finals in Team Roping. The Hilton’s had a great time in the 2nd Go with a 7.880, however a no time in the 1st and 3rd Go along with a 21.810 in the Short Go put them down to an 8th place finish with 25.50 points. The Hilton’s still finished in the Top 10 in a field of over 50 contestants, but missed the opportunity to go to the National Finals.
Ross also competed in Tie Down Roping, where he finished 21st out of 55 with a time of 12.5 in the 2nd Go, but no time in the other rounds.
Kaylee Leseberg of Star Valley Ranch also competed in the Idaho State Finals in Barrel Racing after finishing in 2nd place at the district finals. Leseberg scored a time of 24.061, 18.718 and 24.961 respectively in the first three rounds, finishing in 24th place in a field of 56 contestants.
