• Local donor makes beds and toys for animal shelter.
As the season of baby animals continues in the Star Valley, Lucky’s Place Animal Humane Association is seeing an overwhelming influx of kittens. This trend has become a hallmark of the warmer months, where litters of newborns are often brought into the shelter. Along with the kittens, Lucky’s Place continues to care for a variety of cats and dogs, all awaiting adoption and a chance at finding loving homes.
Local pet bed maker and Star Valley Trail Crew member Susie Johansson has stepped in to help these animals feel more comfortable during their stay. For the past four years, Johansson has made pet beds for the shelter using donated scrap materials and leftover fabric from blanket-making projects. Recently, she delivered dozens, of handmade pillow beds and cat toys to Lucky’s Place, offering the animals a little extra comfort. Johansson is just one of several volunteers who dedicate their time and talents to the shelter, working to provide the best possible care for the animals in need.
MaryAnn Ahrens, a key figure at Lucky’s Place, shared that the shelter sends one of these handmade beds home with each adopted pet, a gesture of warmth and comfort as they transition into their new homes.
Currently, Lucky’s Place has several cats and kittens that would be great outdoor mousers and barn cats, as well as several cats and kittens who would be perfect as an indoor pet.
The shelter also has several loving dogs in need of a home, so stop by or schedule a time to meet with the staff members to find which pet would be best for your family.
These animals are eager to find their forever homes, where they can happily live their furry lives outside of the shelter. With the support of the team at Lucky’s Place, the community and dedicated volunteers like Johansson, Lucky’s Place is able to provide these animals with comfort, care, and hope for a better future.
