Shirley Mignano

Shirley Mignano

Shirley May Mignano, 95, of Idaho Falls, passed away October 20, 2024, at Fairwinds-Sand Creek Retirement Community.

Shirley was born December 24, 1928, in Chicago, Illinois, to John Charles Folsom and Frances A. Gerding Folsom. She grew up and attended schools in Chicago and graduated from Waller High School.

At the end of 1945, Shirley’s anxious waiting was finally over. Her sweetheart, Victor John Mignano, returned safely from World War II, and on April 27, 1946, they were married in Chicago, Illinois. Shirley and Victor made their home in Chicago, then moved to Rockford, Illinois, in 1957. In 1975, they moved to Auburn, Wyoming, to the small ranch where they had spent their summers for many years.

Shirley was primarily a homemaker. However, she also ran the family’s western apparel store, The Wyoming Kid’s Place for many years, balancing the duties of running a retail operation in three locations in Western Wyoming and raising her three boys still in school in Star Valley.

She was a member of the Catholic church. One of her passions was fishing. She and Victor enjoyed plying the waters of Jackson Lake in Grand Teton National Park, fishing for lake trout with family and friends. Shirley was also quite the green thumb. Her love of gardening was evident in the summers as her yard was awash in the vibrant colors of her flower beds. Peonies were the crowned jewels of her garden.

In 1997, She and Victor bought a house in Summerlin, Nevada. They enjoyed the mild winters in the desert, and every year, they would return to Star Valley in June to take advantage of the beautiful summers in the mountains.

Shirley is survived by her daughter, Linda (Robert) Weeks of Cataula, Georgia; daughter, Cathy (Randy) Call of Craig, Colorado; son, Michael (Laurie) Mignano of Idaho Falls, Idaho; son, Patrick (Debbie) Mignano of Lakewood, California; son, Tony (Treasa) Mignano of Idaho Falls, Idaho; 15 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Victor Mignano; son, Christopher Don Mignano; and granddaughter, Meggan Weeks.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, October 23, 2024, at Wood Funeral Home East Side, 963 S. Ammon Road. The family will visit with friends from 10-10:45 a.m. prior to services at the funeral home.

Condolences may be sent to the family at www.woodfuneralhome.com.
