Ashlee Tims Talks Mountain View Soccer Season Turnaround

Mountain View has grown in a large way since it’s recent creation just a few short years ago to now getting votes in the Wyopreps coaches and media poll and have been in and out of the top 5 depending on the week this season. This is particularly impressive how many votes they have gotten considering the team’s start was less than inspiring dropping their first 3 games of the season and knowing they needed to find some way to make a change after losing those 3 games by scores of 5-1, 1-0, and 9-1 to some very talented squads in the 3A class.

The biggest change made was the switch between the pipes making the decision to go to Ashlee Tims who had been playing on the defensive line in the 3 games prior but Tims took the gloves and hasn’t looked back. Tims tells Dahl and Aaron during the interview how she felt that making the switch was both a challenge and a blessing in its own right as she was incredibly nervous about making the move to the most lonely position in the sport but claims that making the switch and immediately beginning to win showed the team that change can be a good thing and perhaps 1 change could lead to the winds of change sweeping across the team and getting a winning mojo flowing.

The biggest part of switching to the goaltender position for Tims was the knowledge that Mountain View’s schedule was not going to be a cake walk by any means as the stacked 3A West was going to mean a lot of shots against on goal but Tims wasn’t going to flinch at that challenge. Ashlee states that while she’d always like to be in a position of boredom as a goalie as it means her team must be dominating on the offensive end, that she enjoys playing in the games where she is active and constantly involved which shows itself on the stat sheet with her leading the 3A in save’s per game to this point on the season and having pitched 2 shutouts despite all the shots against is a truly impressive feat.

One of the biggest things for Ashlee in making the transition as easy as possible for her was her coach and teammates constantly reassuring her that the game was still ultimately a team contest and while their may have been initial nerves there, that no-one on the squad was going to pin 100% of the hopes or the blame on her for anything and this helped her settle her nerves according to herself. The calmness this may have provided seemed to show itself in her first 3 contests thus far with 2 shutout victories under her belt but arguably even further on display in the teams 4-3 victory over Green River in overtime as the game went to penalty kicks to decide the winner, something Tims had never been apart of before as the net minder in her playing career but she was up to the task and the Mountain View Girls managed to get the OT victory in front of the home crowd.

Mountain View will next be in a action later today against Rawlins and you can catch the full interview just below:
