(Audio Coverage) – Saturday State Wrestling; Day 2 recap

It is the last day of the wrestling season as teams battle at the Ford Wyoming Center in Casper. Blake Angell and J.R. Burgess are on site and will bring you the action as the Braves and Lady Braves try and finish their respective seasons as high as they can in the standings.

At the end of Day 2, the Lady Braves have jumped out to a big led in their bid to repeat as Wyoming State champions. Star Valley has 144.0 team points with second place Pinedale at 89.0. Wind River is nipping at the Wranglers heels with 88.0 and Cheyenne East is third with 87.0. Fellow Lincoln County squad, Kemmerer, is sixth with 80 points. 

A total of 45 teams are competing in the girls division. 

Individually, Paisley Smith (115), Remington Aullman (1225), Cara Andrews, (145) an Shaely Kunz( 170) have advanced to the finals. Andrews was a state finalist a year ago. 

Carlee Angell (105), Kenna Merritt (105), Keston Johnson (120), Lynsey Lawson (130) and Brooke Schwab (155) have secured medals and will wrestle on Saturday to see where they stand on the podium.

After the second day of action, the Braves are fourth with 136.5 team points. Thunder Basin is on top of the standings with 197.0, followed by Sheridan with 164.5. Cheyenne East is third with 146.5. Rock Springs is only a half-point behind Star Valley at 136.0. 

Individually, Kimball Parry (106), Tel Parry (132) and Kooper Burk (157) have advanced to the finals. Tel Parry, a sophomore, will be going for his second championship while his brother Kimball, a freshman, will be looking to follow in his footsteps as a freshman champion. 

Malachi Patterson (126), Porter Merritt (150), Kal Burk (165) and Grant Thomson (190) have secured medals and will be trying to better their finish with Saturday’s matches. Patterson is competing with an ACL injury sustained during the football season.
