Pregnancy can be, and is often, overwhelming for many women. This feeling is amplified when the pregnancy is unexpected and unplanned.

The Azar House Pregnancy Resource Center (Azar House) recently hosted their annual Walk For Life event last week, which was to bring awareness to the free and confidential services they provide. These services include pregnancy tests, ultrasounds, and pregnancy options education.

Azar House states, “We empower women in our community to make educated, confident decisions regarding their bodies and their futures.”

Sara Colins, Director, spoke with SVI Media about the event’s purpose to bring awareness to the community of what Azar House provides, so when an unplanned pregnancy happens, they know where to find services that work for them.

It can be hard for some to go directly to a hospital, when they are unable to pay for these important health services. Azar House has a nurse that will come and do any checks or ultrasounds that are needed for the pregnancy. In addition to this, they work under the direction of Dr. Mary Girling out of Jackson, Wyoming.

Collins says, “We offer Pregnancy Options Counseling… to give girls a chance to take a deep breath…and a chance to ask questions and get really good, honest information about all their options.”

Azar House also has a Earn While You Learn Program, which Collins explains as “one-on-one parenting classes.” They can earn points that they can trade in for new baby gear and other items they may need.

Azar House has many generous donors, who help the programs and resources stay available to the women and families who are experiencing unplanned pregnancy.

“We want to support families and make it easier for them to choose life.” She said that they have a phrase that she likes to share that says, “We want to help families choose life and have life more abundant.” One way they do that is using the donor-supported programs and items for these families.

“This year [with the Walk For Life] we really focused on awareness,” says Collins. “It was really important to give people from the community a chance to stand up and show their support for life.”
