• Admission is free.

Montana Shakespeare in the Parks, in collaboration with the Star Valley Arts Council, is bringing Shakespeare’s iconic tragedy, “Hamlet,” to the stage on the lawns of the Kodiak Mountain Resort, located in Afton at 82717 US-89 on Monday, July 29 at 6 p.m. A preshow, featuring local musicians, begins at 5:15. Admission to any MSIP production is always free.

“MSIP has been offering free outdoor theater to rural communities for 52 years,” said Corinne Storey, Secretary of the Star Valley Arts Council. “This year, the stellar cast of 11 actors performs the story of “Hamlet,” complete with a ghost, a failed love, murders and sword fights, as the title character attempts to find balance in a world in which he is suddenly betrayed.”

Shakespeare fans of all ages have enjoyed MSIP productions in Star Valley for years. Favorites such as “The Taming of the Shrew” and “A Midsummer Night’s Dream,” as well as other literary classics, such as “Cyrano de Bergerac,” have delighted guests over and over with jovial swashbuckling, light humor, innovative settings and theatrical versatility.  MSIP loves to present each classic tale with fresh wit and charm.

Guests are encouraged to bring lawn chairs, blankets and picnic baskets to the Kodiak to enjoy this “tragic unfolding of a family.” The performance is free to all. Parents, be advised that “Hamlet” is filled with darker content. It may be wise to preview the plot and prepare young children for the heavy nature of the story.

“The Star Valley Arts Council proudly supports MSIP, and we are excited that MSIP is sharing their historic stage with a few of our very own SVHS students performing a pre-show at 5:15 p.m.,” said Storey. “Get there early to reserve your spot!”
