Boy Airlifted to Hospital after Falling at least 50 feet at Local Ice Cave

PARIS — A 14-year-old Scout was injured at a popular ice cave west of Paris on Wednesday evening.

Bear Lake County Sheriff Bart Heslington said the boy was with a group of Scouts at the Paris Ice Cave when he either slipped on a snow cornice or it gave way beneath him. The teen fell between 50 and 60 feet.

The Scout group was able to get the teen out, Heslington said, adding that they had just reached the entrance of the cave when emergency responders arrived.

The responders provided medical treatment and moved the teen to a landing zone. At that point, he was transported by air ambulance to McKay-Dee Hospital in Ogden, Utah, Heslington said.

Information about the teen’s injuries and current condition were not available on Friday morning.
