How To Prepare for Your First Multi-Day Ski Tour

If you’ve never been on a ski tour, you’re in for a real treat. Just imagine multiple days of skiing on untouched slopes in the back countryside away from the resorts and all the densely populated areas. This will make for the most private and relaxing ski trip you’ll ever take. However, you will need to pack the right combination of gear to keep you going throughout your trip so that you can weather the elements at a moment’s notice. This way, in an emergency, you will be ready for anything life throws your way. Here is a short list of ways to prepare for your first multi-day ski tour.

Be Prepared

Just as if you were going on a camping trip, you will need to carry all the basics with you for survival in case of an emergency. You will also need to be mentally prepared, as you could get separated from the group at a moment’s notice, so you will need to know how to stay safe for an extended time in cold weather. Take a knife, rope, matches and lighters, tents, blankets, and anything else you can think of.

Wear Layers

Wearing layers is a good idea when in the mountains around snow and ice because you can get rather warm during the day and cold at night or during overcast conditions. You will need to pay careful attention to the conditions so you can adjust your clothing as the temperature and the weather change.

Bring a Dry Bag

You will always need a dry bag on your person so that you can have a few dry sets of clothing. This will be important if you make a campsite and want to change into something warm and dry, or if you simply need to change after the trip.

Food and Snacks

In the midst of all the fun you’re having, you will be spending a lot of energy. So it will be important that you keep your energy up and sustain your body. Snacks will keep you going for a while, but if you have a meal planned for the trip, that’s even better.

Don’t Forget Sunscreen and Water

Above all else, you will be at a much higher altitude if you’re skiing in the mountains. That means you will get a lot more sun exposure than you normally would, and you’ll get dehydrated much faster and burn twice as easily. So make sure you’re drinking water constantly and wear plenty of sunscreen.
