Lady Braves hope improvements are waiting at home

The Lady Braves soccer team hit the road after spring break as they traveled to Casper where they faced #2 Kelly Walsh on Friday and then matched up with the Natrona Fillies on Saturday morning.

The outcomes, like the spring weather in Star Valley, was less than ideal. The Lady Braves were forced to play a pair of field players in goal with standout Makayla Christiansen out with an injury. The Trojans pounced in a tough 10-0 final.

The team was able to put freshman keeper, Kendal Madsen, in-between the pipes for Saturday’s match where Natrona came out on top of an 8-3 final.

“It was an ugly weekend,” said head coach Jessica Bagley. “We just didn’t come in like we normally do. It was kind of difficult when we needed to be first to the ball. We will all learn from this experience.”

There was a little light for the program in the final 40 minutes of Saturday’s match.

“Our second half against Natrona was so much better and we started stepping to the ball,” Bagley stated. “That half was 3-2 for us. We learned some things about some different players and we might switch up some things and try something new.”

Those changes will be against top-ranked Jackson who may drop in the standings a bit after a 3-3 tie against Natrona and a 3-2 loss to the Trojans. Still, wins against the Lady Broncs on the pitch have been at a premium but Bagley feels the team is still anxious to face their rivals on their home field.

“I think being at home will make a huge difference,” Bagley added. “We’re excited to be at home and play Jackson and Riverton. I think that we’ll have a couple people back that have been injured or gone. That will help with the substitutions. We need to fight for the ball and we have a shot when we do that.”

Christiansen’s status for this week’s games is uncertain.

The varsity match on Thursday will take place at 5 p.m. While SVI encourages residents and fans to come out and support the teams Thursday in what should be a sunny day. A stream will be provided by SVI Media.

The Lady Braves will host the Riverton Wolverines in a varsity match scheduled for 12 noon on Saturday.
