Lucas Chappell And His Journey To Laramie

Lucas Chappell spent his high school career here in Star Valley as an offensive tackle and Defensive end for the Braves football team as a 3 year starter for the varsity team and is now taking his talents to the division 1 stage. Chappell will be playing this coming fall at defensive end for the Wyoming Cowboys but his road to get to Laramie to play some ball was interesting to say the least, Lucas called in to the studio last Friday to discuss his journey with Aaron and Dahl for the Sports Friday show and broke down his path from Star Valley to Air Force to Snow College to Wyoming.

Chappell’s first offer coming out of high school for a D1 scholarship was to play for the Falcons of the United States Air Force but as second thoughts began to arise in Lucas’ mind as to whether or not he wanted to commit to a military stint after college he ended up going to Snow College instead who wanted him to play offensive line. However Lucas’ love was always for the defensive side of the ball in the trenches and states his delight when he learned that Wyoming’s coaching staff wanted him to go to Laramie to rush the passer rather than protect him.

Chappell will join a solid defensive line rotation potentially heading into next season for the Cowboys and his goal at this time is to get all the mental stuff down during spring ball and training camp and put in the work to get himself into a rotational role with the defensive front in his first season with the Cowboys. Lucas stated as well how important he feels it is for his transition to the D1 level that he was able to transfer in during the spring rather than waiting until the fall which will help him get a leg up getting the calls and shifts mentally logged and even getting some spring ball reps before summer stuff gets rolling.
