Monday, May 24 Kemmerer City Council Notes

FEES, WEEDS AND EQUIPMENT SALE COMES BEFORE CITY COUNCIL

Mostly smaller items took up the agenda for the Kemmerer City Council’s regular meeting on Monday, May 24. The biggest expenditure concerned chip sealing some city streets. City Administrator Brian Muir presented the council with three chip sealing options. After a short discussion, the council decided on the option that would not exceed just over $48,000 in
expenditures. Muir said that the streets around Triangle Park and 5th West Avenue were in most need of being sealed. Muir said the work would most likely be done in July.

The council, at the recommendation of Recreation Center and Events Center director Rachelle Points, approved a 20 percent increase in fees for use of the Recreation Center, the Events Center and the outdoor pool. Points said the fees at these venues haven’t been raised in four years. The new fees will go into effect on July first.

The council then approved the award of a three year contract with South County Vegetation Management in Daniel, Wyoming for weed mitigation. The bid is for $8500 per year. The council also agreed to trade a mower the city is not using to Turf Equipment Irrigation in Salt Lake City for $3500 worth of parts and service.

The Kemmerer City Council then accepted a bid of $6100 dollars from Viviano’s Concrete in Diamondville to put in the concrete base at Triangle Park where the JC Penney statue will be placed. Mayor Bill Thek said donations to erect the statue will cover the cost of the concrete base. Thek said delays in getting the bid approved will likely mean the statue will not be put up before Fossilfest next month as had been hoped.

Muir told the council that he had updated their preliminary budget report. The Council will vote on the 2020-2021 fiscal year budget next month. Mayor Thek also read a letter to the council from a women in Utah who is planning to visit Kemmerer this summer. She lauded Events Center employee Samantha Mancino for helping her with information about events and services offered by the city which she didn’t find on the city’s website. She said Mancino even called her back with further information she researched. Muir said the city was working on updating its website and adding links to other related sites.

The council recessed into executive session to discuss potential litigation following the public portion of the meeting.

Due to the Memorial Day holiday, the Kemmerer City Council’s next meeting will be in three weeks.
