Ranger Sports Roundup: Jan. 11-12

Basketball

The Rangers were routed at class 3A Pinedale on Friday by a score of 86-39.   They were much more competitive against class 1-a Farson-Eden on Saturday.   The Rangers stayed within 14 points of the second-ranked Pronghorns through the first three quarters before Farson-Eden pulled away in the final quarter.    Junior Colter Brunski led the Rangers in scoring with 18 points.

The Lady Rangers basketball team also went 0-2 over the weekend.  They were within six points of the Lady Wranglers Friday night until midway through the fourth quarter.     Class 1A Farson-Eden led most of the way against the Lady Rangers on Saturday, but Kemmerer never let them get more than an 18 point lead.   Charity Chamberlain and Kyla Pollard each hit a pair of three-point baskets in the Farson-Eden game.   Freshman Olivia Neilson led Kemmerer with 14 points.

The Rangers and Lady Rangers head into 2A Southwest Conference play this weekend when the travel to Wind River on Friday and Shoshoni on Saturday.  Listen to the games live on The Spur.

Wrestling

The Kemmerer Wrestling team was outstanding at the Meet of Champions in Vernal, Utah over the weekend.   They placed 9th among the 31 teams taking part.  The Rangers had two individual champions.   They were Donny Proffit at 138 pounds, and Hayden Walker at 195 pounds.   Dawson Schramm also made it to the championship match at 128 pounds, but lost a 13 to 6 decision.

Swimming

The Kemmerer boys swim team were to host the Kemmerer Invitational last Friday.    Due to the continuing repairs being made to the Kemmerer pool, the meet was moved to Lyman.   Kemmerer finished third behind Sublette County and Lyman.   The Rangers had one individual champion.   That was Brayden Deardon in the 100 Butterfly.   Grady Killian was second in both the 100 Butterfly and the 100 Breaststroke.  Ben Wergin took second in the 100 Backstroke,   Noah Hankin was also runner-up in he 200 Freestyle.
