Rocky Mountain Power donates $1,000 towards Montpelier City Christmas Lights

The Montpelier Community Foundation recently received a $1,000 donation from Rocky Mountain Power to kick off the foundation’s efforts to raise funds to enhance Christmas lighting during the annual holiday season.
The foundation has accepted the challenge from the community and Montpelier City Council to create a dedicated fund with the goal of accepting community donations throughout the year for improving the city’s Christmas lights on 4th Street and Washington Street, existing parks and in the newly proposed Heritage Park.
Comments on social media boards had expressed concerns that some of the lights are old and need to be replaced. Montpelier City crews work hard every spring to repair and improve existing lights at a cost of up to $5,000 annually, but do not have a budget for purchasing expensive new decorations.
Local businessman Derek Rider accepted an invitation from the foundation board to chair the holiday decoration committee. With the $1,000 donation from Rocky Mountain Power, the dedicated fund now improves to $1,295.

Donations are being accepted year round towards this project and can be made from this Facebook post. Checks should be made payable to Montpelier Community Foundation and can be dropped off at Montpelier city hall or mailed to 830 Washington Street, Montpelier, Idaho 83254. The foundation is certified as a non-profit corporation eligible for tax-deductible donations.
