Roosevelt Fire update for Wednesday, September 26

The Roosevelt Fire is now over 50,000 acres and is considered 30-percent contained according to the latest information from officials on the site.

The fire has burned since being discovered on September 15, 2018 and has claimed at least 25 structures to this point, although more are expected to be determined.

As of Wednesday, U.S. Highway 189/191 is fully closed while burnout operations continue. the closure will be for an undetermined amount of time, but will reopen as soon as possible.
The closure points are at Stinging Springs and Daniel Junction. Residents are allowed through the closure points but no one is allowed to pass through from Bondurant to Daniel Junction or vice versa.

Damage assessment continues in the Hoback Ranches area where the Sublette County Sheriff’s Office assessed 50 homes of the 153 homes within the Ranches. Of the 50 homes, 22 are destroyed. Property owners will be notified by the Sheriff’s Office.

There is a public meeting Wednesday evening at the Daniel Schoolhouse at 6 p.m. The meeting will be streamed on the Bridger-Teton National Forest Facebook page.

The Bondurant Community Club, Red Cross, Lions Club, Sublette Chamber and the Wyoming VOAD have formed this group to provide assistance. A phone number will be made available once cell services are restored.

A Red Flag warning for high wins and dry fuels has again been issued throughout the fire area for today. For today’s operations, the focus of effort will remain on the north and northeast sides of the fire in the Rim Station area along Highway 189/191, where burnout operations will continue as weather conditions permit. In all areas of the fire, firefighters will utilize the early morning hours to reinforce the fire line in anticipation of high winds this afternoon. Burnout operations may take place in the Rolling Thunder and Upper Hoback areas as necessary.
