Senator Pearson provides update on Wyoming Legislative Session

Senator Laura Taliaferro-Pearson (R-Kemmerer) joined the Weekday Wake-Up radio show on Monday, January 20, to discuss her involvement in the 2025 Wyoming Legislative Session, highlighting several key pieces of legislation she has sponsored and cosponsored.
During her call, Taliaferro-Pearson emphasized the importance of prioritizing primary water users in Wyoming. “In the Agricultural Committee last week, we discussed a crucial bill that ensures our senior water users come before those leasing water,” she stated, underscoring the need for fair water management in the state.

Another significant proposal she’s championing is a shared parenting bill inspired by legislation from 2019. This bill aims to guide courts in prioritizing the best interests of children during custody disputes, promoting active involvement from both parents in their lives. The writing will be that “the courts shall look at shared parenting and what is best for the kids,” she noted.

In addition, Taliaferro-Pearson is advocating for a landowner tag bill, which would allow landowners to sell their hunting tags, ensuring that proceeds benefit the landowners directly. This initiative aims to enhance the economic viability of land ownership in Wyoming.
On the energy front, she is running a resolution focusing on commercial-based low-power generation, supporting clean coal and natural gas while expressing skepticism toward wind and solar alternatives.
Taliaferro-Pearson also spoke about two medical bills: one that would prohibit mass vaccinations and another that allows individuals to donate blood for their own use or have someone donate specifically for them.
As a freshman legislator, she expressed her enthusiasm for co-sponsoring multiple bills, saying, “I might be a co-sponsor on more than I need to be, but these are things I am passionate about.” Her proactive approach signals a commitment to addressing the needs of her constituents in a rapidly evolving legislative landscape.
