Five Commissioner Petition does not get enough signatures for 2026 General Election
The petition organized by the Lincoln County Wyoming Republican Party (LCGOP) that called for adding two commissioners in the county did not garner enough signatures to be included on the General Election ballot this November.
Lance Oviatt, Chairman of the LCGOP, explained that the petition fell roughly 300 signatures short of 1,094 needed. The Lincoln County Clerk gave the petition a mid-August deadline in order to provide enough time to verify all the signatures in time to finalize the ballot by her mid-September deadline.
The petition aimed to increase the number of Lincoln County Commissioners from three to five. With enough signatures the petition would have gone to a public vote in November. The petition also called for the five commissioners to go into districts rather than all open seats, something that also would have been put to the voters to decide this November.
Signatures began to be collected early in the year and continued through the Lincoln County Fair. Oviatt stated that the GOP does plan to bring the petition back for another attempt in 2028.
