• Minor driver walked away with no injuries
A single-vehicle rollover on US 89 resulted in no injuries, an outcome that the Wyoming Highway Patrol (WHP) credited to the use of seat belts.
According to information provided by the WHP, at approximately 6:15 a.m. on Monday August 16, a Dodge Dakota pickup drifted off the road and then overcorrect and rolled down the embankment at mile marker 93. This location is north of Grover before reaching the Narrows area.
“There were no injuries and a minor was driving,” stated Aaron Brown with the WHP. “They were wearing their seat belt.”
Brown noted that in a state with plenty of two-lane highways and accidents such as this one, the outcome was positive in this case because the driver chose to wear a belt.
“We see a lot of people choose not to wear them,” he said. “If there is such a thing as a Wyoming style of crash out there it’s this. We see it all the time on two-lane highways. We see people get ejected in this type of crash and in this case they walked away without injuries.”
The driver was cited for failure to maintain lane.
Brown credited the young driver with making what positive end to what could have been much worse.
“The best prevention is you,” he said. “Whether it be the prevention of a crash or simply prevention of loss of life by wearing seatbelt and being aware. This driver made the choice to wear their seat belt and there was a bad crash but a positive outcome.”
