Star Valley Arts Council Board Member Janet Erickson joined SVI to talk upcoming auditions for the Three Rivers Youth Chorus and what it is.
She says this is an opportunity for students who would like more opportunities to develop their voices and to have performances. She says it is also for those who cannot fit music into their school schedule or who are home schooled but would like these opportunities. The auditions will be September 6-7 at the Etna Community Center from 6:30 to 8 PM.
“We have auditions coming up on sixth and seventh of September,” Erickson said. “We are just inviting anyone who wants to be part of something like this to come and participate,” Erickson said. “We’re going to have a lot of opportunities for solos, a lot of opportunities for kids who play instruments to also be part of performances, and everyone is welcome.”
She says the audition will only be to evaluate the students musical knowledge and level, but everyone will get to participate in the chorus that is interested.
“I’m really excited to be able to offer this to the community,” Erickson said. “I think it’s a quality program.”
She says the students will get to learn about things like presentation and artistic interpretation. She says all rehearsals will be at the Etna Community Center on Thursdays from 6:30 to 8 PM.
She says for auditions, she is asking that students come prepared with what they can and it does not need to be elaborate.
“Whatever you feel you can bring to the audition,” Erickson said. “To demonstrate to us what you are capable of and also to share what you’re interested in learning.”
She says they will be doing some music reading to see how the students do with that. She says it does not matter what level you are at as the purpose of the program is to help kids learn and grow. She also says an accompanist will be there if you’d like that as well.
