The high school volleyball season came to a close over the weekend in Casper at the Ford Wyoming Center with four champions claiming the top trophy to take home.

The Cokeville Panthers load up on big-school scheduling throughout their non-conference slate and it generally pays dividends for the Panthers when it comes to playing in the 1A classification. This year was a prime example of it as Cokeville claimed the program’s 26th state championship in their history by only dropping one set the entire tournament. The finals was a hard-fought sweep over Little Snake River, (25-21, 25-20, 26-24) to cement their first title since 2020.

They got there with a 3-1 win over Southeast in the semifinals and a quarterfinals  drubbing of Guernsey-Sunrise.

Upton defeated Southeast to claim third place.

In the 3A Class, Mountain View continues to be the cream of the crop as they avenged last weekend’s 3A West Regional loss to Powell by defeating the Panthers 3-1 for the 3A title this weekend, 25-20, 17-25, 25-15, 25-20. It is a repeat title for the Buffalos who now have six in their history.

The 4A classification was absolutely loaded this season and the final matches of the tournament showed that to be true with a long list of close set battles and five-set marathons.

Laramie, after a 3-1 win over Star Valley, had to fend off Cody in five sets to earn a trip to the title match. Thunder Basin also had a five-set battle in the semifinals as they outlasted Kelly Walsh. The Plainsmen then fought the Bolts in another five-set classic to win their third 4A title in the last four seasons. The win avenged their only loss of the season to Thunder Basin which look place last weekend at the 4A West Regionals.

Cody placed third with a high-scoring 3-1 win over the Trojans to place third. Kelly Walsh overcame a scrappy Star Valley Lady Braves squad 3-1 (15-25, 25-11, 26-24, 25-22) in the consolation bracket. The Lady Braves played on the final day of the season with a 3-1 victory over Cheyenne East (25-19, 25-21, 24-26, 25-21).

Finally in the 2A Class, Big Horn won 3-1 over Burns.

The Winter sports season begins practice on November 20.
