Swift Creek Canyon east of Afton has been closed until further notice, as of Friday evening, June 23. A mud slide occurred in the canyon the week of June 12. The slide occurred just below the intermittent spring and blocked Swift Creek, backing up water that covered the walking trail to the spring.
The canyon closure was implemented so heavy equipment could travel up the canyon to clear the slide. According to Afton Police Chief Jason Romberg, the closure should only be in place through Friday night.
