Crops are an instrumental part of the United States economy. One of the states with plenty of crops to offer is Wyoming. The state is primarily known for its coal industry; however, Wyoming also produces many useful crops as well. The lands of Wyoming are a place where many valuable harvests take place. Wheat

Wheat remains one of the most popular crops grown in Wyoming. Typically, farmers will mill wheat into flour which people can then use to make items such as bread, pasta, cakes, cereal, crackers, and alcohol.

Barley

Barley is another crop that hails from the great state of Wyoming. Barley is a part of the grass family; it is a hearty cereal that people commonly use for brewing and stock feed. In fact, Wyoming ranks 8th nationwide in Barley production.

Hay

Hay is considered to be the number one crop produced in Wyoming. Farmers primarily use it as animal fodder for cattle, horses, goats, and sheep. Wyoming hay is known for having high protein, leafiness, and excellent feed value.

Beans

Many beans come from Wyoming; technically a seed, you can use it in foods for animals and humans alike. Specifically, beans are very popular among Hispanic dishes, which often include some variety of this healthy ingredient.

Sugar Beet

People primarily use sugar beets to form processed sugar in the United States—it is second only to sugar cane. Sugar beet can be easily identified by its unique looking long root. This unique food flourishes in Wyoming thanks to the longer growing season.

Corn

Corn is a staple crop of farming and has a multitude of uses. It is very good for your health and contains vitamin C, magnesium, B vitamins, and carotenoids. In 2018, farmers planted 95,000 acres of corn in Wyoming.

 

Top Wyoming crops such as wheat, barley, hay, beans, sugar beets, and corn continue to play an important role in the state’s economy—Wyoming is responsible for nearly $2 billion of the agriculture industry every year.
