Utah State football player suspended following racial comments

According to the Utah State University Twitter feed (@USUAthletics) a football player has been suspended for racial comments.

“We have been made aware of inappropriate racial comments made by a current student-athlete on our football team,” the tweet read. “This will not be tolerated and we have suspended the individual immediately, and pending an investigation will take appropriate action.”

The tweet was signed by John Hartwell, Vice President & Athletics Director as well as Head Football Coach Gary Andersen.

After initially declining to identify the player, USU has now announced the player is offensive lineman Ty Shaw. According to reports, Shaw got into an argument online with former Snow College football player Dylan Bennet. Shaw played in 13 games for the Aggies last season.
