Valley celebrates Independence Day

Thursday, July 4 will bring a wide range of activity options for area families as the communities in Star Valley celebrate Independence Day.

Afton

The Town of Afton will hold a flag raising ceremony, followed by a pancake breakfast. The events will take place from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. at the information center and memorial just south of the Afton Civic Center.

Star Valley Ranch

The 22nd annual Star Valley Ranch Independence Day Celebration will take place at the Cedar Creek Park.

The day’s events will kick off at 7:30 a.m. with the VFW Flag Raising Ceremony at the Cedar Creek Park Pavilion.

A pancake breakfast will be served from 8-10 a.m.

The three-on-three basketball tournament will get underway at 9:30 a.m. and continue through 11 a.m.

The line-up for the Golf Cart, Bike and Trike Parade begins at 10:30 a.m. with the parade at 11 a.m.

Kids races and activities will begin at 11:30 a.m.

There will be a hamburger and hot dog lunch starting at 11:30 a.m.

Carnival games will take place from noon to 3 p.m.

The Fourth of July activities are under the direction of the Star Valley Ranch Association.

Thayne

The Town of Thayne will begin their Independence Day festivities with a family fun run 5K and 10K race at 6:30 a.m. The race begins at the Thayne Elementary School Sign.

The flag raising and patriotic program will begin at 7 a.m., followed by a pancake breakfast.

The parade begins at 10 a.m. with line-up at 9:30 a.m. on Peterson Parkway. The parade route is along U.S. Highway 89.

Betty Pendleton will serve as the Grand Marshal.

The Thayne Fireman’s Carnival will immediately follow the parade with games, food and family fun, centered around the Thayne Volunteer Fire Department. The activities will continue into the afternoon.

At 7:30 p.m. there will be a Patriotic Music Fest at the Thayne Community Center, featuring the talents of area residents.

A fireworks display will take place at dusk.

The theme of the day is “One Nation Under God with Liberty and Justice for All.”

Alpine

The Fourth of July Parade in the Town of Alpine will get underway at 2 p.m., with parade line-up at 1:30 p.m. on the Greys River Road.

The parade route will following U.S. Highway 89 from the Greys River Intersection to the Alpine Town Hall. U.S. Highway 89 will be closed to traffic during the parade.

The Star Valley Farmer’s Market will take place from 4:30-7 p.m. at the Marge Grover Memorial Park in Alpine.

A fireworks showcase will begin at dusk.

Cokeville

The Town of Cokeville will celebrate Independence Day with the American Legion Breakfast at 8:30 a.m.

Throughout the day there will be games, horseshoes and volleyball.

A “Hillbilly Swimming Pool” will also be available to cool off in.

A rubber duck race will get underway at 10 a.m. on Spring Creek.

The sno cone shack opens at 10 a.m.

The bounce house will open at 11 a.m.

The Cokeville Co-op Barbecue will take place from 12:30-3 p.m.

There will be a Police Dog K9 Unit Show at 2 p.m.

Karaoke will get underway at 5 p.m.

A Polynesian Plate Supper will take place from 5:30-8 p.m.

There will be fireworks on the Cokeville High School football field after dark.
