How the competition works
Being the final year of The Vocalist, all eight previous winners have been invited back onto the stage to compete again, this time against each other, with the winner receiving the $10,000 grand prize and the crown as Ultimate Vocalist.
Unlike previous years, there will not be any judges on stage during the competition. Instead, you will hear from the contestants as they give feedback to each other throughout the show. In addition, this year there will be no cuts between rounds. All eight contestants will perform twice, once in each round.
The first round of competition will feature each contestant performing in the order that they won, starting with the 2016 winner and ending with the 2018 winner. In the second round, the order the contestants perform will be randomized, with one small wrinkle. Whichever contestant wins the first round will be able to pick which part of the order he/she will compete in the second round, along with the spot in the order one other contestant will perform.
The contestant who collects the most combined votes from both the first and second round will be crowned The Ultimate Vocalist and win the $10,000 prize.

Voting Details
An audience vote will determine the winner of the first round and the ultimate winner after the second round. Audience members will vote via text message. Voting instructions will be given when the voting period opens during the show. Voting will only be open for a short period of time. Those watching the event in-person at the Lincoln County Fairgrounds, along with those watching the live video broadcast will be allowed to vote. The contestant who collects the most combined votes from both the first and second round will be crown The Ultimate Vocalist.
About The Vocalist
Shortly after SVI Media purchased KRSV radio in Afton, Wyoming, the station was rebranded to Swift 98. Named after the popular Swift Creek Canyon east of town. Later that summer, in 2016, the company decided to host a singing competition during the Afton Freedom Festival as a way to promote the new image and brand of the radio station. The competition was name Swift Idol and carried a $500 grand prize.
SVI decided to keep growing Swift Idol. In 2017 and 2018 it was held in conjuction with the Lincoln County Fair as some of the free entertainment under the “Big Top.” In 2019 the event outgrew the Big Top and was moved into the arena as one of the main nightly events. The prize money grew to $10,000. Celebrity judges such as Alex Boye’, David Archuletta and Darci Lynne have since been part of the show.
In 2020 the comptition was renamed The Vocalist. Now in it’s eighth season, The Vocalist has grown into the largest singing competition outside of Las Vegas and Hollywood. Contestants have auditioned and competed from all across the country, from California to New York.
