Weekend Sports Wrap: January 28-29

The Lady Braves won the Ron Thon event in their first year of sanctioned competition with 171.0 team points. Pinedale was second with 148.5 and Kelly Walsh was third with 90.0.  The Kemmerer girls finished eighth with 66.0 points. 

Veil Foreman continued her undefeated season as she improved to (28-0) and pinned her way to the 135 pound title. Keston Johnson (110) and  Samantha Walker (140) advanced to the finals and placed second. Paisley Smith (120) and Shaely Kunz (170) placed third. 

The Braves wrestlers placed fourth at the Ron Thon with a team total of 156.0 points. Sheridan won the event with 212.0 as they edged Green River who was second with 210.5. Thunder Basin finished third with 197.0 and Kemmerer rounded out the top five with 131.0. 

Individually, Tel Parry (126) advanced to the finals where he placed second to Kemmerer’s Roany Proffit. Levi Byrd (106) placed third, while Cameron Kendall (138) and Grant Weiss (170) placed fourth. Bridger Smith (120), and Kooper Burk (160) placed fifth. 

The Braves will be in dual action this next week as they will be in Green River on Friday and Rock Springs on Saturday. 

On the basketball court the Braves picked up a pair of wins over the Evanston Red Devils and the Green River Wolves. In Saturday’s game Jacob Hodges scored 22 points and hauled in 17 rebounds in the road win in Sweetwater County. Taft McClure scored 18 points in the win as well. 

The Lady Braves routed Evanston on Thursday to extend a winning streak but that run ended at five in Green River in a loss to the Lady Wolves. 

This next week the SVHS Basketball teams will be at home as they host the Cody Fillies and Broncs on Friday night with varsity tip times of 6 and 7:30 pm. 

The squads will then host Riverton on Saturday afternoon with start times of 12:30 and 2 pm. 

In other developments, the SVHS Indoor Track team had their meet at Idaho State University canceled due to travel conditions. The Wyoming State Spirit competition was postponed until March 8 in Casper.
