Weekend Sports Wrap: May 11-12

The Braves claimed the 3A West Regional crown, the Lady Braves missed out on a pile of points due to weather and injury and the soccer teams now know who they will be playing this weekend.

3A West Track & Field
The Braves finished with 148.0 team points to win a meet that was shortened and events cancelled due to weather in Powell. The Cody Broncs were second with 124.0 and Mountain View was third with 114.0.

Wyatt Peck held off Riverton’s Brodie Roden for the 400 meter event title. Roden edged Star Valley’s Wyatt Moore in both the 100 & 200 meter events.

As expected, the Braves dominated the 800 meter event even without Peck who holds the school record. Wesley Kallgren won the race with Peter Visser placing second. Dustin “Bubba Brown was fifth.

Kallgren and Visser went second and third in the 1600 meter run with Jesse Loveland placing fifth. Trevor Clark just missed out on the podium with a ninth place finish.

Loveland placed fifth and Clark was seventh in the 3200 meter event.

A fast duel between Cody and Star Valley in the 4 x 100 meter relay took place with the Broncs edging the Braves by two-hundredths of a second. The boys relay team took second and the 1600 sprint medley, a new event to Wyoming, saw Star Valley atop the standings with Jackson Tully, Alias Erickson, Bubba Brown and Wyatt Peck winning the day.

In the field, Wyatt Moore won the long jump and Bryant Erickson won the pole vault.

The Lady Braves were without Janice Hall for the weekend and the team placed eighth with 50 points. The Cody Fillies easily won the day with 149.50 points. Powell was second with 107.0 and Riverton was third with 102.0

Jacie Angell was second in the 1600 meter and third in the 800 meter events. The Lady Braves skipped most of the relay events with the exception of the new sprint medley where the quartet of Emma Dubisz, Brierly Battleson, Lacy Coles and Brooke Kallgren placed sixth.

Olivia Muir was the only other Star Valley girl to finish in the top three by placing third in the long jump.

The Wyoming State Track & Field Championships begin on Thursday in Casper at Kelly Walsh High School.

State Soccer
The Lady Braves will meet up with the Worland Warriors in the opening round of the 3A State Tournament in Jackson on Thursday, May 17. The match will begin at 9 a.m. on Field #4.

The Warriors defeated the Lady Braves in April with a score of 3-2 in Afton. A win would put the Lady Braves into the semi-finals against either Douglas or Rawlins.

The Braves will clash with the Cody Broncs for the third time this season as they will also play on Field #4 at 11 a.m. The Braves defeated the Broncs in a one-sided match of 9-1 on May 5.
