• Help shape future generations of responsible hunters

The Wyoming Game and Fish Department is actively seeking dedicated individuals to join their team as volunteer hunter education instructors. A comprehensive workshop is scheduled for February 20-22 at the Thayne Community Center, designed to prepare new instructors to teach essential skills in safety, ethics, and conservation to future hunters.

Game and Fish Director Anji Bruce emphasized the importance of the hunter education program in ensuring that newcomers are equipped for the responsibilities of hunting. “We reach about 4,000 hunters every year with our hunter education program,” Director Bruce noted in a recent Weekday Wake-Up Interview.

For anyone born after 1966, completing a Hunter Education course is a requirement in every state, underscoring the crucial role of instructors. Director Bruce added, “I recently learned that Hunter Education represents the second largest volunteer force in the nation, after first responders.”

Prospective instructors must complete a few steps before attending the workshop. These include filling out an instructor application form on the Game and Fish website, passing a no-cost federal criminal background check, and signing up for the training workshop. Compensation for travel expenses may also be provided.

Ideal candidates should be at least 18 years old, hold a valid hunter education card, and have experience with firearms and outdoor skills. A genuine passion for teaching the next generation is particularly sought after, especially among those in western Wyoming.

For further details on becoming a hunter education instructor, visit the Wyoming Game and Fish Department’s website or reach out to your local game warden or biologist. Join this vital initiative to promote a safe and ethical hunting culture across Wyoming.
