2024 Spring Music Festival Celebrates Diverse Regional Talent

• Cathedral Voices presents East Meets West

JACKSON, WY. Cathedral Voices Chamber Choir’s biennial Spring Music Festival will fill the Center for the Arts with the splendid sounds of music next week, May 4-5, 2024. This year’s Festival brings together the cultural sounds from China and Korea alongside one of Western Europe’s finest classical masters Ludwig van Beethoven. The weekend includes open rehearsals, live instrument demonstrations, and concludes with a concert on Sunday, May 5, 2024 at 4:00 p.m. All events are FREE.

Regional guest artists hailing from the University of Wyoming, BYU-Idaho, Utah Valley University, and the Los Angeles Sinfonietta join Cathedral Voices Chamber and the Jackson Hole Symphony Orchestra for the Festival’s concert East Meets West.

The May 5th concert will feature musicians Jackie Ricks and Sangyoun Park performing on traditional instruments, alongside Cathedral Voices Chamber Choir, directed by Laura Huckin. Born in Taiwan, Ricks will play the pipa (Chinese lute), and Park, originally from South Korea, will play the Korean drum. The Teton Music School Youth Choir will also make a special appearance.

The concert will conclude with a performance of Beethoven’s Fantasy for Piano, Choir and Orchestra. The Festival Orchestra, organized by the Jackson Hole Symphony Orchestra (JHSO), will be joined by regional vocalists far and wide, including Cathedral Voices, the Beethoven Chorus, and soloists from the University of Wyoming music department. Over eighty instrumentalists and vocalists will perform together for this masterpiece.

“The Jackson Hole Symphony is thrilled to be part of this concert East meets West” added JHSO founder Mimi Scofield. “This concert brings together not only strings, but brass, woodwinds, percussion, piano, voices and a guest conductor for a full orchestral experience. How wonderful to be able to provide this experience to our musicians and our community at a time when bringing people and cultures together feels so impactful and important.”

The complete schedule of events is online, www.cathedralvoices.org.  The May 5th concert will be available via livestream.
