Duke and Dal here with (0:18) you this morning and a chance to catch up with one of the greats from Cokeville (0:22) High School, Addison Barnes, getting ready for state track to wrap up her (0:27) career as an athlete at Cokeville High for the Panthers. Addie, good morning, how (0:31) are you today? I’m good, how are you? We’re doing great, thanks for taking a few (0:36) minutes and has it sunk in yet that this is your last state track and field (0:42) weekend? Yeah, it’s so crazy because today’s are gonna be like our last (0:48) practice.

This is it. How’s it feel? Kind of somber? You excited? A mix of (0:56) emotions? Yeah, it’s kind of a mix of emotions because I’ve had a lot of good (1:01) things in my past but hopefully this state track I can end up with like (1:06) something good. Let’s go back like before your your high school career started was (1:11) was track and field and athletics was that something you knew as a as a (1:16) younger kid that you were like you knew it was gonna be a big part of your (1:19) life as you got into your teens? Not necessarily.

I like always like like (1:26) this like playing sports and being like active and being myself. I didn’t think (1:30) it was gonna be like I was gonna be as good as I am. Well that was a nice (1:36) surprise for you then I’m sure.

So let’s let’s talk track and field for you (1:40) Addison and then talk about some of the other sports that you’ve been involved in. (1:44) Of course you have a big weekend ahead of you at state track. What what are your (1:48) goals heading into this weekend? What are you hoping to accomplish when it’s (1:52) all said and done Saturday afternoon? I hope I can come out with four goals and (1:58) then that will lead into our team winning a state championship.

As far as (2:04) the the competition level there the 1A girls your your team is always at or or (2:09) near the top of the of the team podium. Talk about some of your teammates and (2:14) maybe how you kind of push each other and and maybe how you you all kind of (2:18) interact. We all just like push each other in practice.

We just know it’s like (2:25) each other’s limits and we just like try to make each other better and we know (2:29) that everyone at this state tournament like has to do good in order for us to (2:34) become state championships as like a team. Addison outside of track and field (2:39) of course you’ve you’ve had a great career at Cokeville High School. You were (2:43) most recently named the one of the Southwest athletes of the year in in (2:48) Wyoming which is a huge accomplishment and when we posted that story we had a (2:52) picture of you kind of flexing your muscles and we had all of your medals (2:56) hanging around your biceps and I don’t know there’s a hundred medals at least (3:01) and so when you look back at your time as a Panther what are some of the things (3:06) that stand out to you most or what are you gonna remember most about competing (3:09) for Cokeville High? I’m just gonna remember the memories that I’ve made (3:14) with all like my friends and teammates and it’s just been a really good time (3:18) with them.

Do you have any specific results that stand out to you from all (3:24) of those? Just like being together and like especially when we win like this (3:32) volleyball we like won state championships it was just a really cool (3:35) experience when we all played as a team and ended up winning state. Speaking with (3:41) Addison Barnes this morning, Cokeville High School Panthers getting ready for (3:44) state track and field this weekend. So what’s next for you Addison when when (3:50) graduation’s all done what are you heading off to after high school? This (3:55) summer I plan to play in the all-star game for basketball and then I’ll (4:01) probably be attending Utah State or BYUI and just getting my nursing (4:05) degree.

As far as obviously there’s probably been been schools interested (4:12) in in talking to you for athletics was that did that ever enter your mind to do (4:16) something after high school? Yes it has all the ones I got offers from were kind (4:22) of far away and I mainly wanted to stay closer to where I live so I wanted to go (4:28) close yeah. That’s fair you know Addison you’ve been pretty modest you mentioning (4:33) how you you didn’t expect to have the the career that you did as a high school (4:38) athlete but after looking back and seeing everything you’ve accomplished what do (4:41) you attribute your success to kind of what happened behind the scenes when (4:47) nobody’s watching that helped you get to where you have and accomplish what you (4:50) have? Just always putting in 100% effort like in practice like even if I don’t (4:56) feel very good I just always put in 100% and then in the summer I always put in (5:01) work and like always my in shop baskets and just trying to make myself (5:05) better so that I could be the best that I could be. Let’s talk about your parents (5:09) and your family a little bit tell us about your your family and and what (5:12) type of support that they’ve been able to lend you in your support in your (5:15) career.

Oh they give me so much support like they’re always I don’t think my mom (5:21) has missed a game or a track meet this year or even probably in my whole high (5:26) school career she’s like never missed one she’s always there supporting me and (5:30) even if I like want to do something they’re always there just like helping (5:33) me out and pushing me to do to be my best. Addison talk to us kind of that (5:39) similar question but how about your coaches because it really does take a (5:42) whole community to make this whole thing work right and so who have been some of (5:46) your coaching influences at Cokeville High? Yeah honestly all of my coaches (5:52) have helped me they all have pushed me to be like the best that I can be and I (5:56) don’t know if you know this but my dad is my basketball coach and also he helps (6:00) coach track so he has also helped me a lot and in everything. What would you (6:08) tell some of the younger Cokeville girls that are coming up that have watched you (6:13) compete and dominate what are some things you would tell them maybe like (6:18) you know pick a sixth grader a sixth grader in in Cokeville what would you (6:22) tell them to do? I would tell them just to give 100% effort in everything that you do in (6:28) practice and then it’ll like show off in your performances like in your games (6:33) and in the meets it’ll show.

That’s Addison Barnes Cokeville High School (6:38) senior for the Panthers and Addison thank you for your time wish you the (6:43) best of luck not only this weekend but moving forward and congratulations on a (6:47) great high school career for the Cokeville Panthers. I do want to ask one (6:50) last question here and this is just more light-hearted but maybe talk to us (6:54) more about your teammates tell us who’s been the biggest influence on you as a (7:00) teammate but then also tell us who’s been kind of the who’s who’s the goofball (7:04) for the Cokeville Panthers Cokeville Lady Panthers and who has the most fun? (7:12) It’s me and Mia Dayton are honestly probably the goofballs but Mia also (7:17) pushes me and she’s always right by my side in practice and then also Geneva (7:22) Murdoch she’s a really good runner and she has also pushed me a lot and just (7:26) helped me and we’re I just love the Cokeville Panthers the girls they’re (7:31) amazing. Fantastic that’s Addison Barnes Cokeville High School Addie thank you (7:35) good luck this weekend we appreciate your time.
