Wyoming Energy Authority opens applications for Wyoming Rare Earths Fund

SHERIDAN (WNE) — The Wyoming Energy Authority opened applications for the Wyoming Rare Earths Fund. This new state fund is designed to accelerate the development of Wyoming’s rare earth industry and strengthen America’s critical mineral supply chain.

Established by the Wyoming Legislature during the 2026 Budget Session, the Wyoming Rare Earths Fund provides up to $16 million in matching grants for commercial deployment projects focused on the processing and separation of rare earth resources located in Wyoming.

The program is intended to leverage private and federal investment while supporting projects that create jobs, add value to Wyoming resources and enhance domestic supply chains for materials critical to national security and advanced manufacturing.

Rare earth elements are essential components in a wide range of technologies, including defense systems, energy infrastructure, electronics, transportation and advanced manufacturing. As global demand continues to grow, Wyoming is uniquely positioned to play a larger role in developing a secure domestic supply of these critical materials.

The program is available to companies and project developers seeking matching funds for commercial-scale projects related to the construction or operation of rare earth processing and separation facilities in Wyoming. All awards require a minimum one-to-one nonstate funding match from private or federal sources.

The Wyoming Energy Authority will administer the program through a two-phase application process: a concept paper followed by a formal application for invited projects. Applications will be evaluated based on project readiness, technical feasibility, matching funds, public benefit and the likelihood of successfully achieving project objectives.

Projects selected for funding will undergo a comprehensive review process that includes evaluation by a multiagency review committee, a public comment period, legal review by the Wyoming Attorney General’s Office and final approval by Gov. Mark Gordon.
