The Afton Food Pantry is hosting their annual Mobile Food Pantry this Friday in the Star Valley High School parking lot from 10:00 to 12:00 noon, or until food runs out. In order to control traffic congestion, participants are asked to enter from the north on Kennington Burton Lane then turn left onto Warrior Way by Star Valley Middle School.
Sierra Mitchell, President of the Afton Food Pantry, said the donation is from the Food Bank of Wyoming and anyone is invited to come. “The Food Bank of Wyoming covers the cost for the semi-load to come. But the catch is the Afton Food Pantry has to get rid of the food or else we have to take it back to the food pantry and we just do not have the room for it. So please come get it!”
“What’s coming is preset boxes of cans and non-perishable goods,” Mitchell continued, explaining that there will be enough food for 400 families. “They also send about 10-12 pallets of fresh produce.”
The Star Valley High School Football team volunteers to help distribute the food in a drive-through type fashion. Mitchell said it is okay for residents to pick up food for elderly or disabled members of the community who are not able to attend the event. She also encouraged residents to show up closer to 10:00 if possible, as they have run out of food early in previous years. Updates will be provided throughout the event on the Afton Food Pantry Facebook page.
