Two-vehicle accident near river turnoff results in minor injuries

A two vehicle accident took place on Hwy 238 near the Auburn turnoff from US 89 on Tuesday afternoon. The collision took place approximately a half-mile from US 89 at approximately 4:45 p.m.
According to information provided by the Wyoming Highway Patrol (WHP), a white Ford pickup was slowing down to turn left into the recreation area near the Salt River which is popular this time of year. As the Ford was slowing down to turn left into the river access of 238 with two vehicles behind her, a third vehicle, a Chevy pickup, pulled out to attempt to pass all of the vehicles when it collided with the white Ford. The impact took place with the front corner of the white truck with the momentum taking both vehicles off the roadway through the fencing.
Three women in the Ford were transported for what were described as minor injuries. None of them were wearing seatbelts. They were treated and released.
The driver of the Chevy was uninjured and was issued a citation by WHP for passing in a no passing zone. In addition, the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, Star Valley EMS and area fire department personnel responded.
“This is tourist season and people are floating the river and coming on and off the highways,” noted Trooper Chad Ludwig. “People need to be more patient as there is a constant number of drivers making turns off the roads in these types of locations. Please try and be more aware of your surroundings before you make a rash decision.”
