Amazon warehouse in Riverton finally confirmed as construction finishes

RIVERTON (WNE) — After two years of rumors and non-disclosure agreements signed by local economic development officials, word has finally come through official channels: Amazon is here.

Though the giant facility currently under construction in the Eastern Shoshone Business Park near the new RiverPeak Health Hospital was no secret, on Tuesday city leaders moved ahead with a temporary certificate of occupancy, signaling the first public confirmation that an Amazon warehouse will soon open in Riverton.

The temporary permit will allow use of the building as things are finalized for a formal, permanent certificate of use, Riverton Community Development Director Gary Michaud explained Tuesday, calling the warehouse a nice addition to the city and the business park.

In late 2024, several local and regional economic development officials confirmed to The Ranger that a non-disclosure agreement had been signed through the Wyoming Attorney General’s Office on the project, which left official word of the construction and what was to come under wraps.

Amazon’s interest in Wyoming has grown in recent years.

In October 2024, the company opened its first Wyoming delivery warehouse in Gillette, where employees stage packages coming via truck. At that facility, local “Flex” drivers load packages into cars for final deliveries. That facility employs around 30 people, with another 30 Flex drivers. At its opening in 2024, officials estimated those numbers could increase to 50 and 80 respectively during peak seasons like Christmas.
