After edging the Cody Broncs in overtime by one point last week, the Braves returned to a dominant outcome this week in a 48-0 shutout of visiting Green River on senior night. The win moved the program to (6-1) overall and (3-0) in the 3A West. Star Valley has a short week as they will be in Evanston to face a resurgent Devils squad on Wednesday night before wrapping up the regular season in Jackson.
Vs Green River
The Star Valley offense moved the ball at will and the Braves defense was suffocating as the home team outgained the visitors in yardage 532 to 15. Much like the squad did in Powell two weeks ago, the passing game was prolific off the arm of Ross Hilton who threw for a career-high 334 yards and three touchdowns on the contest. Travis Thomson led that category with five catches for a total of 84 yards. Gabe Delgado, recently returned to the lineup after suffering an injury in the season-opener in Alaska, had 98 yards on just three catches and a touchdown.
On the ground, it was twin brother, Zach Delgado, who led the way with 98 yards and a touchdown on just five carries including a dazzling 32-yard score in the early seconds of the second quarter.
Coach McKay Young spread the football around with 22 different players either recording a catch or running the ball. Several others picked up playing time on two-point conversion attempts as the staff made the effort to let seniors touch the pigskin.
Dax Button returned to the lineup for the first time this season and crossed the goal line on a 6-yard touchdown reception. Calvin Green also scored on a a six yard run. Krew Morgan, Kai Frazier and Crew Lancaster all scored as well.
The Braves defense held the Wolves to just five yards on 21 carries on the ground. It’s the fourth shutout of Green River in the last 11 meetings and the 15th straight win over the Wolves in the series dating back to 2011.
Kickoff time between the Braves and Devils on Wednesday, October 14, is scheduled for 7 p.m. SVI will be there to cover the contest as usual.
