Montana Shakespeare in the Parks returns to Star Valley with a presentation of Shakespeare’s “As You Like It” on Sunday, July 27 at 6 p.m. on the lawns of the Kodiak Mountain Resort at 82717 US-89 in Afton. A preshow, featuring the talents of local artists Brock Haderlie, Olivia Burnham and Shaianne Erickson, is offered at 5:15 p.m. Admission is entirely free.
“Born from aspirations to bring the timeless tales of William Shakespeare directly to rural and under-served communities, Montana Shakespeare in the Parks has been enriching the lives of people in Montana, and beyond, for 53 years,” states shakespeareintheparks.org. “Ushering Shakespeare’s immortal stories of life, love, and tragedy into a modern era, MSIP is dedicated to preserving the cultural traditions of theatre and literature.”
Each year, MSIP sends a troupe of MSU theater students to small towns throughout the intermountain west to share the glory of Shakespeare with small communities.
“Star Valley residents will be transported to Shakespeare’s Forest of Arden as they enjoy his comedy, “As You Like It,” said SVAC Secretary, Corinne Storey. “The characters playfully engage with verbal wit in this romantic comedy’s absurd plot twists, and yet, there is a happy ending for all!”
“As You Like It” is the tale of young lovers, Rosalind and Orlando, and Celia and Oliver, who find themselves in a game of false identities and theatrical affections.
“To those who never miss a show, and those who who’ve never attended, we invite you to join us,” said SVAC Executive Director, Lxi Weber. “The Montana Shakespeare in the Parks actors bring classic plays to life in a way that’s fresh, fun, and totally free. Come see what all the buzz is about!”
Guests are encouraged to bring blankets and camp or lawn chairs and are welcome to bring snacks.
